GCISD Parent Satisfaction and Engagement Survey Launches December 2
We are excited to announce that our very first Parent Satisfaction and Engagement Survey will be conducted December 2-12! A survey invite will be sent on Monday, December 2, to each individual student’s primary contact on file in Skyward. Read our full story for more details about the survey, including information if another parent or guardian besides the primary contact on file would also like to complete the survey independently.
Thank you for your feedback and sharing your insights that will guide our efforts in creating a stronger school community.
GCISD Closed for Thanksgiving Break, November 25-29
GCISD will be closed next week, November 25-29, for the Thanksgiving holiday. GCISD wishes everyone a safe and happy Thanksgiving break filled with fun, rest and time with family and friends. Why I Teach: Rachael Creel
Grapevine High School alumnus Rachael Creel, who is now a math teacher at Heritage Middle School, is proud to teach in the community she calls home. In this episode of "Why I Teach," discover the person who inspired Mrs. Creel to bring her skills to the classroom and learn what life lessons she hopes her students take away beyond the numbers.
It’s Almost Time for the Second i-Ready Diagnostic
The second i-Ready diagnostic will be given to students in grades K-8 during the first two weeks of December. The specific schedule will be shared by your child’s teacher. i-Ready is an online diagnostic that helps your child’s teacher determine their strengths and areas for growth, personalize their learning, and monitor their progress throughout the school year. Results from the diagnostic allows us to meet your child where they are and provides us with data to inform instruction in reading and mathematics.
Here are a few things you can do to help support your student:
Make sure they get a good night’s rest before taking the online assessment.
Talk to your student about why the assessment is important. You can say things like:
The test will help you find out what you know, what you are ready to learn, and it will help you get “just the right” lessons.
Try your best, and do not rush, but don’t spend too much time on a question that you do not know how to answer.
Remember, questions on the test change based on your answers to earlier questions. You will see some questions you don’t know. That is okay! Just try your best.
Let them know you’re excited to hear about how it goes and to ask them about their experience.
We’re thrilled to partner with you in your student’s learning!

Educators from Across Texas Visit HMS
Heritage Middle School, an AVID National Demonstration site, recently hosted a showcase for schools from across Texas, offering an inside look at how the campus earned this prestigious designation and what makes its college and career demonstration program exceptional. AVID, which stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination, is implemented in all of GCISD’s middle schools, as well as Colleyville Heritage High School and Grapevine High School. Read our previous story that highlighted HMS when they received the national designation for the second consecutive time.
#WeAreGCISD Wednesday: Christina Caisse, Pre-K Teacher
When Colleyville Elementary School pre-K teacher Christina Caisse hears #WeAreGCISD, one word comes to mind: support. Ms. Caisse is grateful for the community, staff and students who support her and all of Colleyville Elementary. Keep an eye out for more #WeAreGCISD Wednesday stories, where you might see a teacher or student you know and learn how they are part of how the district is working “Together for Tomorrow.”
#WeAreGCISD Highlights

On Tuesday, November 12, the district hosted its third Leadership GCISD class during the semester-long program. Attendees received a personal tour of the athletics, fine arts and career and technical educational facilities as they learned more from staff members and students involved with those programs. They also received an informational presentation about student services and counseling. If you are interested in applying for the class, which will be offered again in the spring semester, please do this through the Committee application on www.gcisd.net/committees and select “Leadership GCISD.” Thank you to Wise Guys Pizzeria in Grapevine for donating the delicious dinner for the class.
