Hello GCISD!
It’s hard to wrap my head around the fact that it is already November. GCISD has been busy!
First and foremost, I’d like to send a heartfelt thank you to the entire community for supporting our schools, students and teachers by passing the VATRE/Proposition A. We are grateful for this outcome, and we plan to continue action by advocating constructively with the legislative decision makers on funding public school appropriately.
Our goal is to secure the funding necessary to restore 2019 levels and move toward a long-term funding model indexed to inflation. Every legislative session shouldn’t bring the same financial challenges when a solution is within reach, and we believe that solution is best achieved through strong, collaborative partnerships.
This last weekend was the Red Rail Rivalry football game. Despite some bad weather the game went on as planned. I want to highlight something about this year’s game. After the game ended with the Red Rail headed to live at CHHS until next year and celebrations were taking place, something special happened. Hugs, high fives and comradery took place on that field between GHS and CHHS. Sometimes we forget that these students know each other outside of their respective schools. There is a rivalry once a season but what I witnessed was support and a great example of “We are GCISD."
Another recent example of this special behavior was when we gathered to send off the CHHS band as they left to go to the state competition. I looked around and saw several GHS band parents there with signs supporting their “rival” band cheering them on. These instances are not unique in our community – I believe they happen all the time and I urge you to notice them. It’ll likely make you pretty proud to be part of GCISD.
We also inducted the Walk of Honor Class of 2024. This year we celebrated KayLynn Renfro, who was the longtime Director of the GHS Fabulous Fillies, and Carolyn Frank, who was the beloved unofficial “mother” to all at GHS as the administrative assistant to the principal from 1963 until her death 29 years later. The day started with an amazing brunch and ended with induction during pregame and the reveal of the plaques installed at the stadium. Take a minute to learn about the Walk of Honor here.
Finally, today I want to share a special note of thanks to our veterans. Your service and sacrifice to our nation is appreciated and it was an honor to spend Saturday morning celebrating you all in Grapevine's annual Veterans Day Parade.
We have a lot to be thankful for here in GCISD. Our mission of honoring our legacy, equipping for the future and achieving excellence is seen in action daily and for that I am very thankful. We truly are a district of distinction. I wish you all a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Warmest regards,
