Hello, GCISD!
I hope you all had a wonderful Spring Break, and feel well rested and ready to head into these last nine weeks of the school year!
Leading up to and through the break, there have been numerous exciting and impactful events in our district, and I’d like to take a moment to highlight some of them.
First, I’m proud to share that some of my fellow trustees and Dr. Schnautz traveled to Austin a few weeks ago to advocate for public school funding. We were able to speak with state legislators and discuss the importance of this issue. We remain committed to ensuring that our schools receive the resources they need to thrive. However, this effort is not just ours – we encourage you to get involved. Please consider reaching out to your elected officials via email or phone to remind them of the priorities within our district and the needs of our students. In addition to advocating at the state level, we are also working diligently to generate more local revenue and continue seeking partnerships and sponsorships that will benefit our schools.
In other news, our Special Olympics program has recently hosted two wonderful community events: the Bocce Ball Tournament and the Mustang Panther Relays. These events were a shining example of what makes our community so special – the involvement of local elected officials, law enforcement, campus and district staff, community volunteers, and, of course, the joy on the faces of our students. It’s always inspiring to see our students supported and celebrated in such meaningful ways.
A big thank you is also due to our incredible Council of PTAs, who recently hosted a heartwarming Founders Day event. This event honored individuals who have selflessly given their time and energy to make a difference for our students. Their dedication is truly appreciated, and we are grateful for their continuous support of our schools.
Additionally, I am proud to share some recent examples of some incredible opportunities afforded to our students. In partnership with Wise Guys Pizzeria, our advanced culinary students have created three unique pizzas that are being featured on the restaurant's menu through a rotation. This partnership offers valuable hands-on learning experiences for our students while also connecting with a local business. You can see more about this on the recent Fox 4 and CBS Texas coverage. Additionally, the GHS Band had the remarkable opportunity to perform at the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Ireland, showcasing their talent and representing our community on a global stage. This past month has been truly exceptional, and I hope you find inspiration in the dedication and hard work of our students, educators, and community members. Thank you for your support of GCISD!
