Grapevine-Colleyville Independent School District

A Letter from the Board

Board members 2024-2025

Happy New Year, GCISD!

I hope this letter finds you well and refreshed after the winter break. As we begin 2025, we are excited about the learning opportunities this new year will bring. Our dedicated staff has been working tirelessly to ensure that our students continue their academic journey with enthusiasm and support.

The 89th Legislative Session in Austin is now underway, and significant developments are already in motion. Lawmakers are preparing to make crucial decisions that will impact all Texans. Advocacy is most effective when we work together and encourage the GCISD community to join Trustees in making their voices heard. In this legislative session, several pressing education issues demand attention.

As Trustees, we are committed to advocating for public schools and ensuring that public education remains a top priority in Austin. Here’s how we plan to champion these priorities:

  • Actively supporting policies and funding that benefit our public schools and the 5.5 million students they serve.

  • Collaborating with the district to establish a comprehensive list of legislative priorities that reflect the needs and goals of our community. You can find GCISD's Legislative Priorities here.

  • Engaging with parents, teachers, and community members to gather input and build support for public education initiatives.

  • Monitoring legislation to stay informed about proposed laws that impact our district.

  • Keeping the public informed about issues and providing updates on matters that might affect our schools.

GCISD Legislative Priorities

We look forward to sharing updates about how these legislative changes may impact our school community. Thank you for your continued support and partnership in our mission to provide a high-quality education for all our students.

While we've only been back for a few weeks, there is already much to celebrate. Here are a few of the outstanding achievements we're celebrating across GCISD:

  • Vanta National Esports National Champions and National Runner-Up Teams: Students from iUniversity Prep were honored for their incredible accomplishments.

  • Colleyville Heritage High School UIL 5A Marching Band Contest State Qualifiers: We welcomed these talented students for their remarkable performance.

  • Coach Jimmy Webster: Recognized as the National High School Baseball Coaches Association Coach of the Year for Region 6, Coach Webster exemplifies dedication in shaping strong individuals both on and off the field.

  • Grapevine and Colleyville Heritage High School Cheer Teams: GHS Cheer earned silver at the UIL State Spirit Championship, while CHHS Cheer placed 9th in the state. Congratulations to both teams on their outstanding achievements!

  • All-State Musicians: Eleven GCISD students were named 2025 All-State Musicians by the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA). These talented students will perform at the TMEA Clinic/Convention in San Antonio from February 12-15. We wish them the best of luck!

  • Finance Team Excellence: The GCISD finance team earned their fourth award this school year, receiving the 2025 Award of Excellence in Financial Management from the Texas Association of School Business Officials (TASBO). This prestigious award recognizes districts excelling in financial reporting, transparency, and best practices.

  • Suli Davis: Colleyville Heritage High School's Suli Davis represented GCISD in the Under Armour All-America Volleyball Game and was named MVP. We are incredibly proud of her talent, hard work, and dedication.
